Peter Kalkhof
Though obviously an admirer of post-impressionism, Picasso and Matisse, Kalkhof has been much more intensely influenced by this northern romantic tradition, by German expressionism, in particular Kandinsky.
Peter Kalkhof’s roots are northern romantic.
His work belongs to a tradition of painting that includes Caspar David Friedrich and Turner, Nolde and the Expressionists, Kandinsky and the Blaue Reiter, Mondrian and de Stijl, Malevitch and the early Russian avant-garde as well as Rothko, Newman and Still.
This is the only extensive collection of his works in the country
Peter passed away on 24th February 2014.
