| An exhibition of his paintings feature in the main restaurant at Fredericks. Peter Kalkhofs roots are northern romantic. His work belongs to a tradition of painting that includes Caspar David Friedrich and Turner, Nolde and the Expressionists, Kandinsky and the Blaue Reiter, Mondrian and de Stijl, Malevitch and the early Russian avant-garde as well as Rothko, Newman and Still. Though obviously an admirer of post-impressionism, Picasso and Matisse, Kalkhof has been much more intensely influenced by this northern romantic tradition, by German expressionism and in particular Kandinsky. |
